Warning

Background: Tonsil stones occur when debris and bacteria collects in the crypts of the tonsil. They can be hard and can be foul smelling. Scottish Government, ENT Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde policy is that we do not perform tonsillectomy for tonsil stones on the NHS and conservative management should be adopted. Salt water gargles or chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles may help.
